AbstractAn experimental evaluation of adaptive linearizing controllers have been performed for the high cell density culture of Methylobacterium extorquens. The feeding strategies and control structures for the main substrates (methanol, nitrogen, and oxygen) were designed based on the process state. The controllers have been able to perform well and with a high degree of reproducibility from the start-up to the end of the fermentations and to handle major disturbances very effectively The information obtained from the parameters estimated on-line has been very useful to observe the shifts in the yield coefficients.
