AbstractOne of the components of a typical low-slope roofing system is the roofing membrane, the sheet that has reinforcing fibres sandwiched between sheets of flexible matrix. Its function is to waterproof the roof. The flexible matrix can be a thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO). TPO roofing membranes have numerous advantages: their seams can be heat-welded, they are resistant to heat, UV and chemicals, and they have good cold-temperature flexibility. The breaking strength of the membrane depends heavily on the number of reinforcing fibre bundles across the width of the membrane.
