AbstractMany homeowners have converted unfinished basements to family rooms with the intention of separating noisier activities from the other living spaces. This note is intended to supplement the many books and magazines available which do not discuss the acoustical aspects of such a project. The basic principles of acoustics are summarized and methods for sound proofing ceilings/floors, walls, doors, electrical outlets and air ducts are described in detail.
