AbstractFire detectors that respond to heat or to smoke are described with reference to the principles of operation and relative costs. A fire detector must be properly located in the house, must be tested regularly and be well maintained and should bear the mark of approval of a recognized testing agency. Actions to be taken when an alarm goes off are described.
