AbstractA furnace test method for evaluating the ability of protective materials to prevent excessive contribution of plastic foams to fire growth is described. Furnace test results were compared with those obtained during tests in which the growth of a fire in a corner of a room was simulated. The time of failure, as determined by the furnace tests, was found to be a conservative estimate of the time before protected plastic foams began to contribute significantly to fire growth.
