AbstractThe rates of the bimolecular self-reactions of a variety of phosphorus centered radicals have been studied by kinetic epr spectroscopy. In the absence of steric effects, planar phosphinyl radicals, e.g., (EtO)2P, tetrahedral phosphonyl radicals, e.g., (EtO)2Ṗ=O, and trigonal bipyramidal phosphoranyl, e.g., t-BuOṖ(OEt)2Cl, and spirophosphoranyl, e.g., OCH2CH2OṖOCH2CH2O, radicals react at (or close to) the diffusion-controlled limit.
