AbstractThis research examined the effect of polyphosphoric acid (PPA) on bitumen chemistry and structure by studying its reaction with indole using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The paper describes the nature of bonds, reactivity, the effect of indole dilution, and the effect on molecular stiffness and weight.
