AbstractThe object of this report is to provide a background on the short-signal problem for those not already acquainted with the subject. The report is divided into two parts. The first part is an attempt to justify the employment of such systems by outlining their military advantages and the conditions which must be met to use them successfully. The second part is an outline of the nature of the problems which arise in intercepting short signals and in locating the position of the transmitter.
