AbstractThis report describes the development in Canada of semi-empirical models for propeller and ice interaction loads, under the auspices of the joint Canadian/Finnish reseach agreement, JRPA#6. The semi-empirical models are based primarily on model test data, with some input from analytical/numerical investigations, and cover both non-contact and contact interactions between propellers and ice blocks. The non-contact models were developed for incorporation into a numerical simulation model of propeller and ice interaction, developed at the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT). VTT developed the contact load component of the simulation model. The Canadian contact models are a separate development, intended to supplement knowledge/understanding in this field.
