AbstractThe behavior of a structure and the supporting soil should be considered together in assessing their performance. This paper discusses the reasons for field measurements and describes the instrumentation for measuring vertical and lateral ground movements, pore water pressures, earth pressures, wind pressures, building movements and deformations, and the dynamic properties of buildings.
