AbstractA 50,000-cfm (23.5-m[3]/s) fan mounted on a trailer was used to determine the air leakage characteristics of stair and elevator shafts and the flow resistances within the stairshafts of eight multi-storey buildings. The results of the tests provide data that can be used in the design of pressurization systems for protecting stair or elevator shafts from smoke contamination during fire.
