AbstractResponse and Fourier spectra of earthquake records have already been studied extensively. This paper compares Fourier and response spectra of an earthquake record, El Centro 1940, with those of blast records of approximately the same maximum acceleration. The response spectra for the earthquake and blast records are also compared with the response spectra for a triangular acceleration pulse of maximum amplitude of 33% of gravity. It is also shown how the response spectra for triangular pulse accelerations can be used to design structural components to withstand gas explosions.
