AbstractThis paper describes a rather unusual full-scale loading test on a bridge. One simply supported span of the bridge was subjected to a series of static loads, in the form of two heavily loaded trucks, in order to determine the transverse load distribution characteristics of the span. The test results show that theoretical and actual performance were in rather close agreement for the case of symmetrical loading at the centre of the bridge. Under eccentric loading, i.e., loading near the edge of the bridge, the actual distribution was significantly less severe than that obtained by analytical methods.
