AbstractWith the goal of producing a workable, performance-type building energy conservation code, the Division of Building Research, National Research Council of Canada, is trying to devise a suitable, practicable means of verifying compliance with an energy budget. Two methods are under consideration: measuring the annual fuel consumption of a building in use or an energy analysis. In order to check the suitability of compliance by energy analysis, 22 consultants were commissioned to carry out energy analyses of a hypothetical test building. The results show large variations in predicted energy consumption.
