AbstractThis Secretariat Paper examines the ways in which the technical factors associated with wood in construction are dealt with in building legislation, and the effect of such legislation on the use of wood and wood based products. Current legislative practices are discussed, based on a review of building regulations, codes of practice, and national standards in effect in both developed and developing areas. The paper attempts to identify weaknesses in present legislaton and to indicate areas where future action is needed.
