AbstractTricalcium aluminate, hexagonal calcium aluminate and cubic aluminate hydrate were treated with calcium lignosulfonate, using dimethyl sulfoxide as the solvent. Adsorption was almost nil on the C(3)A and the cubic phase. The hexagonal phase adsorbs irreversibly about 2.2% calcium lignosulfonate. Adsorption also results in the formation of thinner hexagonal plates having higher surface area than the untreated specimen.
