AbstractThe subject of venting, that is of providing openings to release the heat and smoke of building fires by natural convection, has been of interest in many countries. This paper, a translation from Japanese, deals with methods of calculating the area and height of vents required to make sure the smoke does not flow out through doors and windows but only through the vents. The cases of a theatre, an underground cinema and a warehouse are investigated.
