AbstractEquations and graphical methods are presented which allow calculation of the steady or unsteady temperature in the ground under flat areas of any shape on the ground surface. The equations, some of which are derived by superposition, are applicable to structures such as basementless buildings, shallow lakes and rivers, street intersections and ice-rinks.
