AbstractThe Canadian Armed Services have an R-F Signal Monitor Van which frequently operates in conjunction with a test aircraft. The Services requested aid from the National Research Council in developing a system to measure and record the range of this aircraft automatically. The new system uses surplus beacon components and a commercially available time-interval unit. A suitable corner-reflector antenna was designed and built by the National Research Council for the equipment. The maximum error of the finished system was found to lie between -148 feet and +49 feet, for all ranges from 700 feet to 200 nautical miles.
