AbstractIn studying the behaviour of piles or other engineering structures in which the supporting soil is an integral part of the design both piles and soil should be instrumented. Others have discussed the field instrumentation required to conduct static and dynamic measurements respectively on piles, consequently this paper deals only with field instrumentation for soil.
