AbstractAn injection mode-locked TEA CO2 oscillator having an active volume of 5 litres has been operated with a cavity round trip time as long as 140 ns and peak pulse energy of ∼25 J. More than 30% of the laser's total output energy was contained in the peak pulse when long resonators were used. As a consequence of the mode-locking technique, a low-jitter electrical pulse, accurately timed with respect to any pulse in the mode-locked train, is available several hundred nanoseconds prior to the laser output.
