AbstractA series of observations made at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa is described. The purpose of the study was to produce information that can be used to evaluate current design standards. Seventy-seven washroom-intermission studies were made to relate washroom use in terms of arrival rates, duration, and frequency of fixture use, to population. The influence of alcohol consumption and some problems of washroom layout are also considered. Some simulations of use were conducted to provide data on waiting for a range of fixture provisions.
