AbstractDriving rain is one of the significant agents of premature deterioration of wall assemblies. Driving rain deposited on the cladding may penetrate through imperfectly designed, defectively installed and inadequately maintained interface details at wall penetrations under the driving force of coincidentwind pressure. Some examples of rainwater-induced damage include the decay of wood basedmaterials, corrosion of metals and failure of finishes. Hence, assessing the degree to which drivingrain may penetrate wall assemblies permits determining the risk of damage under given climateconditions and this in turn may provide the basis for estimating the useful life of the assemblies.
