AbstractThere has been much interest for a number of years in the use of clear coatings on the wood siding of houses. This widespread interest on the part of architects, home owners, and builders has been due largely to the attractive appearance that these coatings give to the coated grain of the wood. Failures have occurred by delamination, cracking, and peeling with some coatings before completion of one year of exterior service. Other coatings required a new coating each year to maintain a good appearance. The results obtained, which are now reported will serve as a guide for further studies.
