AbstractGlazing technology as advanced dramatically in the last decade, giving designers new options for specifying both framing and glazing systems. The Institute for Research in Construction (IRC) has long been active in window research, contributing significantly to this advancement. IRC has more recently investigated the long-term benefits of gas-filled glazing units as well as the performance contributions made by changes to insulated glazing spacers. It has also conduced full-scale testing programs to assess design innovations and the accuracy of computer modelling. Research in each of these areas has led to preliminary recommendations that building designers may benefit from.
