AbstractCommonly used estimates for background leakage, residential night water demand, and pressure-leakage relationships may not be representative for North American water distribution systems. This paper reports the results of measurements at two pilot DMAs in Ottawa, Canada, that were undertaken to determine actual values. Residential night demand was found to be higher than expected; background leakage was as expected for ductile iron pipes but the leakage-pressure relationship deviated significantly from the expected one.
