AbstractThe size of DMAs traditionally ranged from 500 to 3000 service connections, depending on the ease of establishing the boundary of the DMA and/or the criterion for smallest detectable leak. Economics has not been considered in the past in determining DMA size. An economically optimum DMA size is established in this paper based on theoretical models for the cost of DMA-based leakage management strategies with 3 different intervention criteria.
