AbstractIn the following report an interference procedure is described which promises a useful application in aeronautical research. The physical basis of the procedure and a simple method of adjustment are explained. Further a special technical design of the apparatus is described, insuring its usability even where shocks are present in the area, and permitting the study of non-steady phenomena. The possibility is established of measuring optically the small density variations surrounding bodies in a flow even at low speeds (40 metre per sec.), using the interference procedure.
