AbstractBecause the method using embedded sensing elements from measuring the equilibrium relative humidity of concrete specimens (often used for ASTM standard fire tests on building constructions) does not completely suit the field of fire endurance testing, a new technique to determine the "dampness" of fire test specimens was introduced in 1961 by the Division of Building Research of the National Research Council of Canada. The method basically consists of using cored samples and determining the moisture content of the samples by drying them. The test method is described in detail.
