AbstractLarge and complex building arrangements, which are appearing in ever-increasing number, are not well handled by traditional approaches to public safety, particularly with respect to fire. In this review of design in relation to safety, the special problems of fire are emphasized, and developments leading to more rational regulations and design concepts are anticipated.
